The Speaker: Order. The Bill before the House is a Line measure. The Minister of War will move it and the House will hear him in the customary silence.

Maria Holt (Minister of War): I beg to move that the Bill be now read a third time and do pass. The Bill concerns the men on the planking and the timber under their feet. I ask the House to pass it as it has passed every measure of the kind. The Bill provides as follows. Charged to the Annual War Appropriation. The House will note that the Bill is an amending Bill; the principal Act, The Requisition (Amendment) Act, is not otherwise touched. The Bill is in the hands of the House.

Gisela Vastholt (Westgau; The Workers' Front): Speaker, I sit for Westgau. The clerks there are few and the roads are long, and any officer the Bill appoints will spend a week finding the houses. The Front supports the Bill where it helps the families of the Line and opposes it where it charges them. The clause is short and I shall not read it. The Line is held. What the Line needs the House provides. I have nothing to add and I shall not detain the House. I shall not divide the House on it.

Luise Brenn (The Ostrand; The Reed Party): Speaker, The land pays for everything in the end. The Reed Party will vote as the land would vote if it could. The Ostrand has had a hard year. I say that not against the Bill but so that the Minister remembers it when the fees are fixed. The Line is held. What the Line needs the House provides. I have nothing to add and I shall not detain the House. The material provision is this: Charged to the Annual War Appropriation. I ask the House to note it. I support the third reading.

Oskar Quast (Westgau; The Assembly Union): Mr. Speaker, The Union has no quarrel with the purpose of the Bill; its quarrel is with the fee, and with the officer who will collect it. The people of Westgau will ask what it costs them, and I should like to be able to tell them. On a Line measure I say what every member says: the Line holds, and the House holds with it. The clause is short and I shall not read it. I support the third reading.

The Minister thanked the House for a short debate and asked for a short division.

The Speaker: The Bill concerns the Line. The House will not divide. The Bill was passed without a division, the members rising in their places as the Clerk entered it.

The House then proceeded to the next Order of the Day.
