The Assemblyof Schwartzistan

The general election of 1834 returned sixty-three members to the Assembly from seven regions of nine seats each. Two parties contested every seat in every region. The Assembly Union took the greater number, with thirty-five members returned against twenty-eight for the Reed Party, and holds seats in all seven regions, as does the Reed Party. The mean turnout across the regions is recorded at 76.1 per cent. Report of the election.

The return shows a chamber divided by region rather than uniformly across it. The Assembly Union carried the Capital District and Westgau by wide margins, and Norrfeld by a comfortable one, while the Reed Party held the Ostrand, Kesselhöh, the Osmoor and the Sudmark, in each case narrowly except in the Ostrand, where its lead was considerable. The Clerk records turnout ranging from 59.0 per cent in the Ostrand to 86.0 per cent in Norrfeld.

Of the sixty-three seats returned at this election, the great majority were vacated on 2 October 1839, at the dissolution preceding the following general election; a smaller number lapsed earlier, by death or otherwise, on 18 November 1835, 16 March 1835, 28 August 1837, 16 October 1838, 23 December 1838 and 16 February 1839, and were filled in the ordinary course of business of the Assembly.
