The Assemblyof Schwartzistan

The Clerk of the Assembly returns the result of the general election held on 7 October 1844, the ninth such election, in which 2 parties contested 63 seats across 7 regions of 9 members each. The Assembly Union returned the largest number of members, 33, against 30 for The Reed Party. Turnout across the seven regions averaged 76.3 per cent. Report of the election.

The Assembly Union carried every region of the country, though by margins that varied a good deal between the capital and the provinces. It returned members in all seven regions and took its widest lead in Westgau, where it polled 69.1 per cent of the vote and six of the nine seats. The Reed Party, for its part, also returned members in all seven regions, and its strongest showing was in The Osmoor, where it took 69.1 per cent of the vote and six seats. Between them the two parties accounted for the whole of the return; no other party stood.

Turnout was highest in Kesselhöh, at 88.0 per cent, and lowest in The Sudmark, at 62.0 per cent, where the Reed Party nonetheless carried six of the nine seats on 66.1 per cent of the vote cast. In The Capital District, where turnout stood at 78.0 per cent, the Assembly Union took seven of nine seats on 78.2 per cent of the vote, the largest single share recorded in any region. The Ostrand alone among the regions returned a Reed majority delegation against an Assembly Union minority delegation of four, the two parties dividing 87.0 per cent turnout between 57.9 and 42.1 per cent of the vote. Norrfeld returned five Assembly Union members to four Reed on a turnout of 76.0 per cent.
