The Assemblyof Schwartzistan

The Clerk of the Assembly returns the following as the result of the general election held on 7 October 1859, the twelfth general election of the Assembly, three parties having contested sixty-three seats across seven regions of nine members each. Mean turnout across the regions is returned at 73.3 per cent. The Reed Party returns the greatest number of members, with twenty-three seats, against twenty-two for the Assembly Union and eighteen for the Continuity Party. The return records that each of the three parties took at least one seat in every one of the seven regions, no region returning a clean sweep to any single interest. The Assembly Union leads on mean share of the vote by eight-tenths of a percentage point over the Reed Party, notwithstanding that it is the Reed Party which returns the larger body of members, the distribution of its support having told more evenly across the regions of the Ostrand, the Osmoor and the Sudmark than the concentration of the Union's vote in the Capital District, Kesselhöh, Norrfeld and Westgau.

Norrfeld returns the highest turnout of the seven regions, at 90.0 per cent, and the Capital District and Westgau the lowest, each at 62.0 per cent. The Sudmark returns the most lopsided contest of the poll, the Reed Party there taking 58.6 per cent of the vote and five of the nine seats, against a single member for the Continuity Party on 14.3 per cent. Kesselhöh alone divides its nine seats three apiece among the three parties, the closest contest returned anywhere in the kingdom, the three shares of the vote there falling within four points of one another.
