General election of 1894
The Clerk of the Assembly certifies the result of the general election held on 4 October 1894, the nineteenth held under the standing orders of the Assembly, in which four parties contested the sixty-three seats distributed among the seven regions of nine. The Assembly Union, the Reed Party and the Continuity Party each returned seventeen members, and the Workers' Front returned twelve; mean turnout across the seven regions is returned at 79.1 per cent. The return is laid before the House in the form required by the standing orders: a national table of the four parties contesting, showing the mean share of the vote returned to each across the seven regions and the number of regions in which each secured representation, followed by the particulars of each region in turn, with the share of the vote and the seats won by every party there returned, and closing with the names of the sixty-three members returned, grouped by region and distinguished by party. No party secured a majority of the seats returned. The Assembly Union and the Reed Party finished level on seventeen seats apiece, with the Continuity Party a further seat behind them on the same number, and the Workers' Front returning twelve; all four parties are recorded as having returned at least one member in every one of the seven regions.
Of the seven regions, turnout was highest in the Capital District and the Osmoor, each returned at 90.0 per cent, and lowest in the Sudmark, returned at 62.0 per cent. The Assembly Union led the poll in the Capital District and in Norrfeld; the Reed Party led in the Ostrand, in the Osmoor and in the Sudmark; the Workers' Front led in Kesselhöh and in Westgau. The Continuity Party led in none of the seven regions, though it returned members in all of them, finishing second in the Capital District, the Ostrand and the Osmoor with shares in excess of thirty per cent in the last two.
