The Assemblyof Schwartzistan

The general election of 1909 returned sixty-three members to the Assembly from seven regions of nine seats each, four parties contesting every seat. The Assembly Union returned the largest number of members, twenty, followed by The Reed Party with seventeen, The Continuity Party with fifteen, and The Workers' Front with eleven. Mean turnout across the seven regions was 70.4 per cent. Report of the election.

Grand Chancellor at the election: Casimir Burond. The Herald of that day · The Courier.

The Clerk records that the polls in all seven regions were declared before midnight on the day of the election, the last returns reaching Vellmar from Westgau shortly after eleven. The Assembly Union held every region, though it led the poll outright in only three: the Capital District, Norrfeld and Westgau. The Reed Party led in the Ostrand, the Osmoor and the Sudmark, and the Workers' Front, for the first time in the Assembly's returns, led a region, taking Kesselhöh with 33.8 per cent of the vote. No party carried a region alone; every one of the seven returns is a mixed one, and the closest was Westgau, where the Assembly Union's 32.0 per cent was separated from the Workers' Front's 31.9 per cent by a hundredth of a fraction of the vote as struck by the returning officer.

The Workers' Front failed to take a single seat in the Ostrand, where its vote share of 5.4 per cent was the lowest recorded by any of the four parties in any region, and it is on this account alone among the four that it holds seats in six regions rather than seven. In Kesselhöh, by contrast, the Front outpolled all three of its rivals and returned three members against two apiece for the Assembly Union, the Reed Party and the Continuity Party, the only region in which no party returned more than three.
