The Assemblyof Schwartzistan

The Clerk of the Assembly certifies the return of members chosen at the general election held on 5 October 1954, the thirty-first general election of the Assembly, at which four parties contested the sixty-three seats distributed among seven regions of nine members each. The Reed Party returned the greatest number of members, eighteen, with the Assembly Union returning an equal eighteen; the Continuity Party returned fifteen and the Workers' Front twelve. Mean turnout across the seven regions was 72.4 per cent. Report of the election.

In the Capital District the Assembly Union and the Continuity Party divided the ward houses between them, three seats apiece, with the Reed Party and the Workers' Front holding the remainder; the Clerk's tellers report the count at the Capital District returning office ran past midnight on account of a recount demanded on the third district. In the Ostrand the Reed Party's margin was wide enough that its fourth member, Tomas Brenn, was declared without a recount being sought; his seat was afterwards vacated on 4 February 1956, ahead of every other member returned in 1954 save one. Kesselhöh returned the Workers' Front to the head of its poll for the first time in the region's return, with three of its nine seats, a result the Herald of the day set beside the region's turnout of 88.0 per cent, the highest recorded of the seven. Norrfeld returned the Assembly Union five of its nine seats on a vote share of 49.0 per cent, the largest single-party share recorded anywhere in this return, on a turnout of 89.0 per cent. Westgau returned the Workers' Front four seats on 40.7 per cent, its best regional showing.
