The Assemblyof Schwartzistan

The Clerk of the Assembly returns the result of the general election held on 6 October 1974, at which four parties contested sixty-three seats across seven regions of nine members each. The Assembly Union returned the largest number of members, with nineteen, against eighteen apiece for the Reed Party and the Continuity Party and eight for the Workers' Front, no single party commanding a majority of the House. Turnout across the seven regions averaged 72.7 per cent. Report of the election.

National result

No party secured a majority of the sixty-three seats, and the return records three parties within a single seat of one another at the head of the poll. The Assembly Union led narrowly on seats returned, with nineteen, though its mean share of the vote across the regions, at 27.3 per cent, stood below that of the Reed Party. The Reed Party and the Continuity Party each returned eighteen members. The Reed Party's mean share of 30.7 per cent was the highest recorded by any party at this election, and it returned members in every one of the seven regions, as did the Assembly Union and the Continuity Party. The Workers' Front, with a mean share of 15.1 per cent, returned eight members and was without representation in two of the seven regions, the Ostrand and the Sudmark.

Result by region

The regional returns show a divided country. The Assembly Union led in the Capital District, taking four of its nine seats on 44.5 per cent of the vote, and again in Westgau, where its 32.2 per cent held off the Continuity Party by a narrow margin. The Reed Party led in the Ostrand, the Sudmark and Norrfeld, its strongest showing being the Sudmark, where it took 45.4 per cent of the vote and four seats against the lowest turnout recorded at this election, 58.0 per cent. The Continuity Party led only in the Osmoor, on 39.9 per cent, ahead of the Reed Party by five and a half points. The Workers' Front led a region for the first time in its history, taking Kesselhöh with 29.7 per cent of the vote and three of its nine seats, the highest number the party returned anywhere. The Ostrand recorded the highest turnout of the seven regions, at 83.0 per cent.
